Hats

Ok, so I HAVE actually been knitting more than I have been showing in the past few months.  It is sometimes difficult to post everything one makes, esp. when one finishes a project and the next project begins calling ever so sweetly and seductively.

And so I am playing catch up today!  First on my list:

1. Crumpet Beret
Made from Tahki Donegal Tweed that my husband and my father in law surprised me with after a trip to Ligonier, PA (Kathy’s Kreations!)

2. Clapotis
This was made from leftover yarn from my Minimalist Cardigan. I wanted it thinner and scarfier than the pattern called for, so I altered it thusly.

3. Baronness Beret
This I made when TEO & I went to visit our friends Marc & Sara in St. Augustine. I am always in need of a project on any trip and this time brought several options. Ended up making this little number! Of course I made TEO model it for me, and he sweetly obliged!

4. Sideways Cloche
This is the first pattern I have had a chance to do from one of my Christmas present knitting books, Boutique Knits. It was really quick and fun, and a great chance to use up some stash yarn that I had.

This is the best pattern ever. It was so quick, easy, and fun to make – also fun to wear!  Honestly, I made it MONTHS ago, but couldn’t post pictures of it until I had a worthy costume.  Halloween came around and I whipped up a white robe and silver belt, and dug out the old wig!

THe pattern is by Ansley Bleu and was purchased off Etsy!

Actually, the name of the pattern is the “Amelia Earhart Aviator Cap” from Head Huggers, a group that offers free hat patterns and promotes them for the knitting of caps for chemo patients and such.  The patterns are adorable.

This one in particular was quite fun to knit, and it took me about a day to make.

Look closely at that last picture and you’ll see the hubs… playing Lego Star Wars on XBOX!

The way it just daintily and perfectly covers the ears makes me think of a bonnet.

The story of this hat is long and boring.  So I’ll tell you!  I was raking through the plenty of free patterns from Crystal Palace Yarns just to see what was out there and I came across this hat and saved it not thinking much of it.  The hat was pictured on a creepy mannequin so of course I didn’t look past the model to see its true potential.  Somehow Teo saw the hat and immediately had to have it.  Dragging my feet, thinking it was way too goofy I agreed and proceeded to take months and many other projects before I even ordered the yarn for it.  Finally it came in, and I sat and knit it in a few hours while Teo was at work.  Then I hid the finished hat in my unmentionables drawer to bring in out at just the right moment for a pleasant surprise.  I chose that moment when he was trying on his newly finished Harry Potter-esque scarf, so that he would have a hat to go with it.  His utter joy immediately disintegrated when he tried it on and found it too small.  By this time, I’ve seen what he’s been seeing in this crazy hat and finally realized how adorable it was – so I kept it for me!  Since then, I have made the hat 3 more times – twice for Teo because the second time it was to big, but the third time it was just right…  talk about your Goldilocks!

Plus I’ve also made it in navy blue yarn (above) left over from my Mrs. Darcy sweater and sent it to Amanda for her birthday (btw, Amanda send pictures!).  Okay, Trent, I guess the hat is darling.

(a more recent addition to the blog:)

I finally got Teo to pose with his hat, the original acorn!

Well, ever since Elizabethtown (the movie) came out, I have been just about as obsessed with finding the prefect floppy beret pattern as any other knitter.  I have plenty of patterns saved on my computer of different kinds of berets, but not until I discovered Purl Bee’s  purl beret was I positive I have found the right one.  With excess yarn from my stash and my fingers itching to start a mini project (as I was stuck in between bigger ones at the moment) I cast on purl beret in a boring tan.  Turns out boring tan can be quite fetching!

Well back when I started this blog on blogger, I had the devotion to sit and create a handful of blogs and then disappeared like a phantom.  Every time I made a new project, I promised myself to upload a new post… and instead started a new project.  So, this post is devoted to all the things I have made in the past year and a half and was too lazy to load.

This is a sock monkey hat made for my sister in law, Amanda.  I got the pattern from Knitty and it was quite a hit.  Now for her husband…

I made the manly mitts, also from Knitty - I liked them so much that I made a pair for myself!

…and kitty helped!  Next up (but of course these are NOT in chronological order!) is

stevens-scarfbp.jpg

my first foray into cables and it was in the form of a scarf for my younger brother, Steven.  Hopefully he’ll send me a picture of him wearing it because I bet he’s pretty darn handsome in it!

This was a purse I made a few months ago for my other brother, Richie’s fiance, Maria, for Christmas.  Being that I have been absorbed with knitting for the past 2 years, I am way out of practice with sewing, so in all honesty, it’s ok but certainly not perfect (sorry, Maria!)…  I just wish that I could design knit patterns like I could pattern a purse.

moms-pillowbp.jpg

This was my second foray into cables and it was a pillow for my mom.  She loves it, even though there are plenty of things that I would, in retrospect, change.  For one, I would have lined it with red fabric so that those white spots would not peer the gaps in the yarn.  Also I would have made it removeable so that the pillow within could be replaced.  Already the pillow has become flattened like a pancake.  But still, mom loves it!

That’s about it for my summary of 2006-07 projects.  Hopefully the year 2008 will see a more dedicated Kristen makes.
